Frequently Asked Questions about your new FirstBank Visa Debit card with chip Technology

To provide more security on every transaction, the FirstBank Visa Debit card is now equipped with chip technology. If you have a Visa Debit card, you will soon get a new card with chip. Learn more about the benefits offered by this technology and the migration from your Visa Debit card to your Visa Debit card with chip.

Why does my new Visa Debit card have a chip?
Compared to my current Visa Debit card, what are the benefits of my new Visa Debit card with “Chip and PIN” technology?
Debit cards with “Chip and PIN” technology offer greater security to your transactions. The chip adds a new security level by generating a single-use code to validate each transaction, thus providing better protection for your card against unauthorized use, and making it more difficult to forge or clone.

Select your PIN! When you call to activate your card, you should also assign a personal identification number (PIN). It is important that you assign a PIN to your Visa Debit with chip, since it will be required for transactions at points of sale (POS) and automatic teller machines (ATM). However, your signature may be required as a verification method when using:

  • Terminals with no pin pad
  • Terminals that are not enabled with chip technology
  • Terminals with technical difficulties to read the chip

You should also update this information in online stores or merchants where you have registered your card number for purchases, as well as services such as ATH Móvil. Along with your new card you will receive a letter with the date on which your existing card will be cancelled, so please ensure to update your information prior to this date.
