FirstBank Encourages Intern Volunteerism Through Partnership with El Comedor de la Kennedy

As part of its Summer Internship Program and reaffirming its commitment to a more human and people-centered approach to banking, 18 FirstBank interns participated in a volunteer initiative on Tuesday, July 7, at El Comedor de la Kennedy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting food insecurity in Puerto Rico.

This initiative is part of a partnership of more than five years between FirstBank and El Comedor de la Kennedy, focused on supporting the well-being of vulnerable populations and strengthening the communities the organization serves. As part of this effort, the Bank has contributed through volunteer activities, employee and intern engagement, and support for the organization's specific needs, reinforcing its commitment tocreating a positive impact beyond banking services.

Incorporating volunteerism into our interns’ experience allows us to develop purpose-driven talent while fostering a culture where people come first and commitment to our communities is an essential part of who we are,” said Nayda Rivera Batista, Executive Vice President, Chief Consumer Officer, and Chief of Staff at FirstBank.

During the volunteer event, interns assisted with preparing, organizing, and distributing food, directly contributing to the organization's mission while experiencing firsthand the importance of community service.

“Our mission is to ensure that no one goes to bed hungry. We thank FirstBank and its team of interns for joining our mission to provide food to children, college students, and elders who need it most,” said Chef Iván Clemente, founder of El Comedor de la Kennedy.

This collaboration reaffirms FirstBank’s purpose of acting beyond transactions by fostering relationships that transcend banking and strengthening the connection among its employees, customers, and the communities it serves.

Founded in 2009 by Chef Iván Clemente, El Comedor de la Kennedy has impacted thousands of people across Puerto Rico by providing free meals to vulnerable populations. Today, the organization distributes millions of pounds of food each month and serves thousands of children and older adults through multiple service locations.
