As part of National Small Business Week, the Small Business Administration (SBA) in Puerto Rico recognized FirstBank Puerto Rico with the 2025 Bronze Lender of the Year Award – a distinction that highlights the bank’s commitment and effectiveness in facilitating access to capital for small businesses on the island.
This award recognizes financial institutions that lead in using SBA programs to foster entrepreneurship, job creation, and sustainable economic development. Under its FirstBank for Business alignment of business products and services, which includes the integration of value-added resources, the bank has been at the forefront when it comes to offering financial solutions designed to support both new entrepreneurs and established businesses looking to grow.
“This recognition reaffirms our mission to empower those small businesses that move Puerto Rico’s economy. We’re honored to support customers who, like Dulzura Borincana, are taking local flavors to the world. Their success is a reflection of the impact we seek to achieve with each financing,” said Aysha Issa, Senior Vice President and Retail & Small Business Director at FirstBank.
As part of the SBA ceremony, Dulzura Borincana, a FirstBank customer and Puerto Rican company specializing in the production of tropical sweets and snacks, was also recognized as the Small Business Exporter of the Year. This recognition highlights the company’s sustained growth, its successful entry into international markets, and its contribution to the local economy.
“We’re proud to represent Puerto Rico in international markets, and we thank FirstBank for believing in our vision and supporting us at every stage of our growth,” said Carmen Ríos, Vice President of Dulzura Borincana.
With this double recognition, FirstBank for Business reaffirms its commitment to business development on the island, while supporting success stories that transcend borders.
